FO protests over France, Germany remarks

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday conveyed its disappointment to France and Germany over the reported remarks by the French President and the German Chancellor relating to Pakistan.
Foreign Office conveyed government’s disappointment separately to the Ambassador of France and the German Charge d’ Affaires in Islamabad at the reported remarks by President Nicolas Sarkozy and Chancellor Angela Merkel relating to Pakistan following their meeting with the Indian Prime Minister in New Delhi and Berlin, respectively.
It was underlined that Pakistan enjoyed excellent relations with both France and Germany and that bilateral cooperation in all areas had lately been on the increase.
Pakistan was, therefore, surprised and disappointed at the reported remarks made by the two leaders, a statement issued by the foreign office here on Monday. Both France and Germany were well aware of the great sacrifices being rendered by Pakistan in the ongoing fight against terrorism. Therefore, incriminating Pakistan in the context of terrorism was unjustified and uncalled for, the statement stressed. -APP
